What it is: Manufactured by mixing fine wood chips, shavings, and sawdust together with a synthetic resin adhesive and hot-pressing it into panels. It is the most lightweight and budget-friendly option.

Appearance: A flat, uniform surface composed of dense, tiny compressed particles.

Key grades: Standard chipboard is prone to crumbling and swelling if wet, so look specifically for P5 moisture-resistant grade (often green-tinted) if using it for floors.

Best used for: Loft boarding, kitchen/bathroom flooring sub-layers (P5 grade), shelving, and internal furniture carcasses.
