STRUCTURAL STEEL (RSJs & BUILDERS BEAMS)
We fabricate all types of structural steel sections (commonly known as RSJs or builders beams) for small to medium builders.
Ideal for strengthening new builds, extensions, or renovations – used as columns, lintels, beams, or custom fabrications.
Standard sections typically turned around in 2-4 days. Custom fabrications slightly longer.
Nationwide delivery available.
Use our online beam calculator for instant quotes on standard sizes, or contact us with drawings/details for custom requirements.
We cut, drill, and prime ready for site.
BEFORE YOU ORDER
Costs vary based on several factors:
– Building size and span: Larger clear spans require heavier steel sections, increasing costs.
– Cladding type: Box profile sheets are cost-effective; insulated or composite panels add expense but improve energy efficiency.
– Site location and conditions: Wind/snow loads, ground works, and access affect foundation and frame design.
Portal frame warehouses typically range £50-£150/m² for basic supply and erect.
Yes, for smaller buildings. Our portal frames use bolted connections for straightforward assembly. We provide detailed erection drawings and guides. Larger warehouses often require professional erectors for safety and speed but can be done if previous experience.
Popular sizes in stock: Delivery in 2-3 weeks, erection 1-2 weeks.
Custom projects: Fabrication 8-12 weeks, delivery and erection additional 4-8 weeks, depending on size and approvals.
Basic site tools: Crane/telehandler for lifting, spanners, drills. No welding needed on-site for portal frames. See our erection guide for details. We prepare all ready to fit.
Steel frames: 50+ years with galvanised protection. Box profile cladding: 25-40 years to first maintenance, depending on coating (polyester/plastisol).
Portal frames use rigid rafter-column connections for clear spans up to 60m+, ideal for warehouses. More efficient and cost-effective than lattice trusses for low-rise commercial/industrial use.
Strong and modern, but not suitable for highly curved surfaces. Minimum roof pitch 4-10° recommended for water runoff. Anti-condensation backing advised for cold storage.
INSTALLATION & CONSTRUCTION
Portal frame erection: Foundations first, then columns/rafters bolted, purlins/girts added, followed by box profile cladding. See our build-up guides for insulation and ventilation details.
Quotes include standard flashings for eaves, ridges, corners. Custom flashings available for specific details. Full list on our accessories page.
Yes – detailed manuals, videos, and phone support. We recommend approved erectors for larger projects.
We partner with experienced UK erectors for full supply-and-erect packages, ensuring compliance and warranty.
TECHNICAL & PLANNING
Often yes for commercial warehouses. Agricultural buildings may qualify under permitted development (up to certain sizes). Always check with local authority; we can provide drawings for applications.
See technical sheets for profiles (32/1000 or 34/1000), gauges (0.5mm walls, 0.7mm roofs), coatings, and warranties.
Steel frames meet UK regs; fire protection optional for single-storey unless boundary/close to other buildings. Cladding non-combustible.
Composite panels or built-up systems with PIR insulation for thermal performance. Essential for temperature-controlled warehouses.
